berseri-seri (ber·seh·ree)
Berseri is an Indonesian word associated with radiance: to glow, to shine, to appear bright with joy.
Berseri-seri describes that feeling intensified—the unmistakable way someone lights up when something reaches them.
I encountered the phrase through Bali, where it stayed with me long after I returned home. Not simply because it sounded beautiful, but because it gave language to something I had always recognized: the visible change that happens when a person feels fully alive.
That feeling became the beginning of House of Berseri.
Why “House”
A house has room.
House of Berseri was never meant to be the name of one medium, one aesthetic, or one finished version of me.
Room for abstract paintings and surreal collage. For prints, clothing, objects, experiments, writing, workshops, and ideas that have not found their final form yet.
It can hold contradictions. Serious thoughts and strange little jokes. Beauty and discomfort. The deeply personal and the simply delightful.
Calling it a house made space for the work to keep evolving.
From curiosity to creative practice
Creating was how I paid attention.
I have never been particularly interested in staying inside one creative lane.
House of Berseri grew from that instinct: to follow curiosity, try the unfamiliar thing, and let one idea lead unexpectedly into another.
For a long time, that kind of creative restlessness can look impractical from the outside. Too many interests. Too many projects. Too much feeling invested in things that do not arrive with guaranteed outcomes.
But creating was never just a way to produce something.
How I processed what I could not neatly explain. How I found my way back to myself. And eventually, how I began connecting with other people who recognized something of their own inner world in mine.
What the house is becoming
Today, House of Berseri is an artist-led creative house for original artwork, surreal collage, prints, and artist-designed pieces.
But the larger idea is still unfolding.
It is becoming a place for art, curiosity, creative practice, and more honest forms of connection—a place where feeling deeply is not treated as a weakness and following what lights you up is not dismissed as frivolous.
Everything here begins with one artist, but it does not end there.
The work becomes complete in the moment it reaches someone else: when a piece stops them, delights them, unsettles them, or feels strangely as though it had been waiting for them.
That is the hope behind House of Berseri:
To make things that bring us back into contact—with our surroundings, with one another, and with the parts of ourselves that still know how to light up.
